In der westlichen Welt blieb der echte Schwarzkümmel lange Zeit im Schatten. Erst durch die Heilung von einem an Asthma erkrankten Pferd wurde der Schwarzkümmel in Europa wieder entdeckt.[10] Schwarzkümmel ist eine der best bewerteten, evidenz- basierten Heilpflanze.
Neueste Studien belegen die Vielseitigkeit des Schwarzkümmels
Schwarzkümmel enthält über 100 wertvolle Inhaltsstoffe, die viele biochemische Prozesse im Körper positiv beeinflussen, sowie den Hormonhaushalt, den Stoffwechsel und das Immunsystem ins Gleichgewicht bringen.

Forschungen zufolge verhindert Schwarzkümmel das Tumorwachstum und die Metastasenbildung bei Blut-, Brust-, Dickdarm-, Bauchspeicheldrüsen-, Leber-, Lungen-, Fibrosarkom-, Prostata- Nieren-, Haut-, und Gebärmutterhalskrebs.[68] [69] [70] [71] Nach der Methotrexat-Behandlung bei Kindern mit lymphatische Leukämie verringert Schwarzkümmel einen Leberschaden und erhöht die Überlebensrate.[72]
